"Rapperswiler Sternsingen" - a nativity play with procession for all ages
On 16th of December 2012, exactly at the sixth stroke of the clock, the procession of the Rapperswil star singers will move from the Capuchin monastery through the dark alleys of the old city to the Hauptplatz square and perform the nativity play.
The long procession with angels large and small, the herald angel, Mary and Joseph, the shepherds and the three magi together with sheep, horses, donkeys and camels - always provided by the Knie's children zoo - moves to the illuminated castle steps.
Der lange Zug mit kleinen und grossen Engeln, Verkündengel, Sterndeuter, Maria und Josef, den Hirten und den heiligen drei Königen mitsamt Schafen, Pferden, Esel und Kamelen - welche jeweils von Knies Kinderzoo zur Verfügung gestellt werden - begibt sich zur beleuchteten Burgtreppe.

From the upper platform of the castle ascent, the herald angel proclaims to the packed crowds on the Rapperswil Hauptplatz square: «O world, you dark passage, break the old barriers! Make way for peace».

The play, written for Rapperswil by Pius Rickenmann at the end of the 50s, lasts approximately 30 minutes. It ends with «Silent night, holy night» and with the ringing of the bells of the Stadtpfarrkirche church; then, the more than 100 participating star singers leave through the narrow streets.
Jam-packed bystanders line up along the procession route in the streets of the old city and watch the play at the Hauptplatz square.
Admission is free.
