Ritterhaus and chapel, Ürikon
The knights of Ürikon have been mentioned in documents since the 13th century, and under the foundation of the Ritterhaus and Burgstall can be seen the walls of even older houses.
The terms "Ritterhaus" and "Burgstall" have, however, only been in use since the 19th century.
The chapel in Ürikon consists of a long Roman nave and a late Gothic choir; the roof dates from 1480/81. A representative of the Einsiedeln monastery built the Burgstall in 1492, a huge building for that time, with sandstone ashlar facing. 1531 saw the construction of the Ritterhaus in half-timbered style, resembling a town hall and located to the west.

It was with the preservation of these buildings in mind that the Ürikon-Stäfa Ritterhaus association was founded in 1943. With the help of both public and private donations, the buildings were restored at the end of the 1940s, and the Ritterhaus was renovated anew in 1976.
The Ritterhaus is used nowadays for conferences and is popular with school classes as a dormitory and meeting place for special workweeks. The Burgstall houses private apartments, and the chapel is in great demand for both Catholic and Protestant church services, especially weddings.
